This significant project delivered 33kV high voltage electrical infrastructure for a new 50MW solar farm at Gorse Lane, near Sleaford and is one of the latest in a series of large-scale renewable energy contracts being undertaken by Dunamis.
Awarded by Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor Metka EGN, the contract was delivered from concept to construction on time and on budget by Bury St. Edmunds-based Dunamis.
Involving the design and installation of a 33kV dual circuit substation and a 4km connection to the Distribution Network, Dunamis also utilised its specialist High Voltage Electrical Engineering arm of the group, Maintech Power, which provided its jointing capabilities on the complex cable installation.
Located near Sleaford, Lincolnshire, the Gorse Lane solar farm will continue to have sheep grazing between the panels and will generate enough electricity to power 6,000 homes and 8,000 electric vehicles, while offsetting 10,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Power generated at Gorse Lane will be transported through Dunamis’ infrastructure to the network operated by Western Power Distribution.
A key element of the project was achieving efficiencies and added value, which was realised by Dunamis’ expertise in the delivery of high voltage electrical infrastructure. This included its designers working with Western Power Distribution to design and deliver an innovative combined dual circuit substation building.
In addition, its Construction Engineers utilised sustainable methods to minimise impact on the local environment, including directional drilling to install the cable and fibre ducting along the complex route.
Weekly project meetings were held to improve efficiency and Dunamis was able to schedule works to accommodate the client’s planning conditions and minimise disruption to the local area.
“Dunamis’ track record in delivering specialist High Voltage electrical infrastructure is supporting the group’s strategy of helping the UK achieve net-zero, with this contract being the latest in a number that supports the development of essential solar farms across the country.
Dunamis has established an enviable track record for the delivery of highly complex electrical infrastructure projects, which is contributing to the Group’s growing position as a significant contributor in delivering a low carbon economy.”
“Its strategically important to utilise an experienced and specialist supply chain in the delivery of projects such as Gorse Lane Solar Farm. We were pleased to have a specialist expert like Dunamis on board for this project.”
